The Quiet Moments That Change Us: Learning to Be Kind to Yourself

Beauty Shines Within

A gentle reflection on life’s changes, emotional well-being, and self-kindness.

There comes a time in life when we begin to notice certain patterns…

Quiet cycles that seem to repeat themselves,
yet never quite lead us where we imagined to be.

We may not recognise them straight away.
Only as a feeling… that something isn’t quite settling.

For me, this moment came quite suddenly.

After a cycling accident, I realised my life needed to change as I began recovering from an injury.
At the same time, I’m finding myself moving through the many changes that come with perimenopause.

A time every woman experiences at some stage in life,
yet one that can feel deeply personal.

It has a way of gently bringing things to the surface…
thoughts, emotions, and tender, vulnerable moments.

Even with some understanding of what to expect,
there are times I find myself forgetting the simplest things…
like preparing a cup of tea.

Small moments that can feel unsettling…
even a little embarrassing.

All while waves of emotion move through me,
sometimes gently…
sometimes like an unexpected rollercoaster I wasn’t quite prepared for.

I’ve come to notice that change doesn’t always arrive how we imagine.
Sometimes, it quietly takes us by surprise.

One moment, you are moving through your natural rhythm of life…
and then something shifts.

It might be a gentle, pleasant surprise,
or something that softly challenges your sense of wellbeing.

At first, it can stir a whole range of emotions.
This is only natural.

In these moments, you may find yourself questioning…
not to criticise, but to understand.

A quiet pause for reflection,
as you begin to observe what feels unfamiliar.

This may feel uncomfortable at times,
especially if it touches something tender,
or if you are not used to thinking of yourself first.

And yet, there is a way to be kind to yourself,
while still being kind to others.

A quiet way of learning…
one that gently shows you how to care for your own energy too.

Because when you’ve spent a long time being harsh towards yourself,
kindness can feel uncertain.
As though it may not really matter.

But it does.

If you stay with it for a while…
a little while longer…
gently… patiently…

something within you begins to shift.

A soft, beautiful light starts to glow.

Not all at once,
but in small, almost unnoticeable ways.

Your breath becomes a little softer.
Your thoughts begin to feel clearer, less clouded.

And slowly, you begin to feel a quiet sense of warmth within yourself…
like being held in a gentle embrace.

And from here, something truly beautiful begins.

Those small moments of kindness start to ripple outward.

And maybe… just maybe…
that’s where true beauty begins.

Not in perfection.
Not in appearance.

But in the quiet light we carry within…
even when we forget it’s there.

A light that doesn’t need to prove anything.
Only to be gently remembered.

If these words have gently found their way to you,
and you feel the need for a quiet space to pause and reflect…

I’ve created a journal inspired by this very feeling.

A place where you can gather your thoughts,
move at your own pace,
and return to yourself with kindness, again and again.

You can choose the style that feels right for you…
whether that’s blank pages, lined, or grid,
each one offering space for your own unique way of expressing.

And wherever you may go,
may the poem resting on the back gently remind you of this moment…
that kindness is within us all.
